Drawing and writing are some of my truest passions. If I don't do either for too long there is no peace inside of me. It was hard to capture just one idea because I love video games and wanted to do fanart but I didn't enjoy drawing people. I wanted to do something different something that captivated me and still life always has. The textures of an object. A simple apple sits on your counter and it has so much beauty. The vibrant reds, pinks, greens, or yellows. How the light touches its surface and illuminates its curves. The contrasting colors between it and the color of your counter etc... There are so many moments for me where I stop to truly think about the beauty of ordinary objects. And that is what led me to this idea. To create the horde and alliance symbols that the allied races had made their own.
I couldn't copy this from somewhere else so a lot of learning took place. I had to conceptualize what I thought it would look like in my head, then practice how to make the shapes and blend the colors, then put it on paper. And the learning never stopped there. I found that as I drew I learned more and more with each section of the drawing.
This one is for the Zandalari Trolls. I flew around Drazar'alor, went in and out of the rooms, and absorbed every part of the scenery that I could. It is beautiful, glittering in all of its golden adornments. Like the lost city of gold, it felt ancient, tribal, and ornate. I wanted this drawing to reflect that.
I saw the horde symbol hanging in a room. A fire burning brightly to illuminate it as a way of honoring it. Gemstones are incrusted in the metal as adornments, and it is the central focus.
If I redid it now there are definitely things I would change. During the drawing, I went from very cheap colored pencils to my own big box of prismacolors. Drawing with them was night and day, they blended like butter compared to the other colored pencils. But with this drawing, my love of drawing metal grew. This metal was better than my first drawing with the Void Elf Alliance symbol and after this, it got even better.
