I went to my neighbor's house. "Hi Ralenn," I said.

"Oh, hi dear," She said "How are you?"

"I'm good. Do you think you'd be able to do me a favor?" I asked.

"Sure what do you have in mind?" She said sweetly.

"Would you be able to make a rat toy for the Springpaws I was telling you about?" I asked shyly.

"Oh, of course. Let me get my things." She said as she went to grab her sewing kit and some fabric.

She was always so happy to hear the stories about the Springpaws and put a lot of work into the toy. As she sewed I told her about playing with the boys, and petting Junelight.

The toy was beautiful and looked like a real rat!

Ralenn, is such a kind old lady. She always watches out for me when my parents and siblings are away. My siblings are much older than me so I barely ever see them and my mother and father are Farstriders so they are gone a lot too.

That next day I was so excited. I couldn't wait to see her play with it and finally warm up to me!

Alas despite my best efforts she never came out of her den. I threw the toy in and waited as I slowly pulled it back to me but she never came out.

I left that day so disappointed. I kept thinking about it and couldn't sleep that night because of it. I never had to try this hard with animals before, they always loved me. I tossed and turned wondering what I had done wrong. Finally, fed up with my restlessness I got out of my bed and crept outside. I know I shouldn't go for a walk in the forest at night but I wanted to see them. I wanted to see Junelight, Wildpaw, and Rogue at least. At least I would feel better knowing that they liked me.

I tip-toed down the path, being careful not to wake the dangerous creatures, and there she was. The last cub, Moonlight was sitting in the spot I always put the food, staring at me. At first, I wasn't sure what to do. She was the only one there, I could barely what she was thinking. I wasn't sure if I was a friend or foe in her mind. Silently she sauntered over to me and rubbed her head on my extended hand. It was at that moment that I realized, I had been a friend to her this whole time, but she came alive at night.

I sat with her for an hour, gently petting her head & scratching behind her ears before I headed back home. The rest of the night I slept well. I had made friends with all of them!

I was so excited I rushed to tell Ralenn about how I had made friends with all of them. She listened happily until I said I had gone into the forest alone at night.

Her voice was full of concern as she said "Be careful out there my dear. You never know what dangers lurk in the woods at night. Please do not go in the woods at night anymore."

I told her I wouldn't but deep down I knew I'd go back. I wanted to spend more time with Moonlight and this was the only time I got to. I tried going back before dusk but she was still in her den. It wasn't until the night set in that she was ready to come out.

Despite Ralenn's words ringing in my ears, I went back the next night and every night after that. Moonlight was always waiting for me. We didn't play like I did with Wildpaw and Rogue. We sat there quietly. I'd gaze up at the stars while scratching her head and listening to the stillness of the night. It was so peaceful in the forest at night, I almost wondered what dangers could be lurking here.

I sat under the tree with her one night. Gently petting her head when we heard some noises. Moonlight focused in on the sound and as they got closer she placed herself between me and them. Silently she guarded me as I sat very still.

I heard the voice of a Drawf but couldn't make out what he was saying. What was the alliance doing here? So close to my home...
