The Hunters Journey - Part 8: Spiders - A World of Warcraft Fanfiction

They sent us, to kill spiders. SPIDERS, well not exactly spiders but basically. This has nothing to do with Dar'Khan. Ugh, there are webs everywhere. Junelight is turning into a sticky mess of webs. She keeps running into them searching for things and I cannot stop her to save my life. The hair on the back of her neck is so matted... It just had to be spiders, didn't it?

"You are such a mess right now." I said disgruntled "Can you stop? one of these times you are going to get stuck in a big web."

Playfully she jumped into another web. Pouncing and batting at it like it was a ball of yarn. I sighed deeply. There is no convincing her. We are going to have to go for a swim in the river after this.

"You are being so difficult right now." I said to her "You are an orange cat that is turning grey from going through so many webs."

She looked me in the eyes, tilted her head, and made a noise that sounded more like a meow, than a roar. It almost looked like she had a smile on her face.

"Yeah, Yeah." I said quietly "Let's kill these spiders and get it over with. There are some people we are supposed to find too. Hopefully, they are still alive."

She perked up, and then attentively started to stalk the Nerubis. At least that got her to stop jumping into all of the webs... I guess.

As we ventured closer to the Lake, we heard screams and a muffled argument. Along the edge, we found two of the Farstriders that we were sent to look for. All the others had died attacking the trolls... One of them seemed very lost in his own world and the other was clearly upset. She kept yelling at him and after a while, I tuned out of their argument.

There it was, another scream. In the lake, there was a shimmering being. A ghost, no wait many ghosts. They were the screams we had heard. The Farstriders seemed unaware of their presence like they were always part of the lake, but I wanted to know more.

Junelight had hunkered down to watch them. She was stalking the ghosts. Fixated on each scream, and ready to strike at any moment. What had happened here? Who were they?

"Well, Hunter?" The Farstrider.

I hadn't heard what she had said. I was so fixated on the ghosts, that I didn't even realize they were talking to me.

Disgruntled by my expression, she asked again. "Please go tell Captain Hellos what happened here. He is south, at the Farstrider Enclave".

"Yes, of course." I stammered. "We will go there now."

As we left, Junelight and I continued to watch the ghosts. Each scream re-peaked our interest. I wondered if anyone at the Enclave knows more about them.

Ranger Krenn'an did know what happened to them. They drown and were so tormented by that, that they stayed in the world of the living.

He didn't tell me what the event was that caused them to drown, just that they had been here for a long time. Stuck in an eternal state of unrest, crying out for all to hear their torment. He asked us to put their souls to rest.

I wasn't sure how we were going to do this, considering that they didn't have a body... but we would find a way. It was time for them to move on.

"I wonder what caused them to all drown," I whispered to Junelight.

Junelight didn't even acknowledge me speaking to her. She was too busy watching the ghosts. I looked down at her only to realize that she was still covered in webs.

"I should have bathed before we went to Farstrider Enclave," I said with a heavy sigh. "I bet the Captain and everyone else thinks poorly of us now... At least we have a chance to go swimming now..."
